Social Media-Does it work for a business?

Do you sometimes wonder if Social Media is nothing but a waste of time?  I have been there many a time, and even recently, I have times with serious doubt.  I  understand the frustration you might feel.

This week I had such a great experience with a company that contacted me that I wanted to share it with you.  I wrote a blog about blogging tools on 11/29/15.  In that blog, I gave a link for a company called Topsy Topsy was a popular choice for those that analyzed social media and influencers “back in the day”.  Apple bought Topsy in December 2013 for more than 200 million dollars.  The company closed in December 2015.

What this meant to me was that two weeks after writing my blog, I had a link that was broken.  A broken link or dead link is a link on a web page that no longer works because the website is encountering one or more of the reasons:

  1.  An improper URL entered for the link by the website owner.
  2. The destination website removed the linked web page (causing what is known as a 404 error)

Now for those of you that do not know, having  a broken link on your page is a huge “No, No” and can hurt your SEO.

The point in all of this is to show you how social media can work for you.  Ninja Outreach “reached out” to tell me that I had a broken link on my website.  I was grateful for the contact and the solution.  My response is to use the experience to hopefully encourage my readers who have periods of “Is it worth it?”.  Using this as an example, I put out information about NinjaOutreach  which in turn will hopefully drive more business to them.

Social Media is an easy way to learn about your audience.  Using tools like Facebook Insights, you can learn more about age, gender and what your audience really likes.  You can gain a sense of what type of people they are.
