Social Media-Does it work for a business?

Do you sometimes wonder if Social Media is nothing but a waste of time?  I have been there many a time, and even recently, I have times with serious doubt.  I  understand the frustration you might feel.

This week I had such a great experience with a company that contacted me that I wanted to share it with you.  I wrote a blog about blogging tools on 11/29/15.  In that blog, I gave a link for a company called Topsy Topsy was a popular choice for those that analyzed social media and influencers “back in the day”.  Apple bought Topsy in December 2013 for more than 200 million dollars.  The company closed in December 2015.

What this meant to me was that two weeks after writing my blog, I had a link that was broken.  A broken link or dead link is a link on a web page that no longer works because the website is encountering one or more of the reasons:

  1.  An improper URL entered for the link by the website owner.
  2. The destination website removed the linked web page (causing what is known as a 404 error)

Now for those of you that do not know, having  a broken link on your page is a huge “No, No” and can hurt your SEO.

The company that reached out was Ninja Outreach. This company helps you find influencers and leaders in your industry.  One of the features of this business that I really like is the Influencer Outreach Tool.  This tool includes templates to send messages to those influencers.  They also let you know which outreach templates are providing you with the highest open, click through and reply rates..  To keep from having responses slip away, there are email notifications to alert you that a prospect has replied.  Check them out and see if this can help your business.

What is An Influencer?

An influencer is an individual who has the power to affect purchase decisions of others because of their authority, knowledge, position, or relationship.  In consumer spending, members of a peer group or reference group act as influencers.  In business to business buying, internal employees or external consultants act as influencers. In social media, an influencer has a great reputation.  Search engine ranks factor into page ranks, so keeping those page rankings high and the website reputable will all help to establish you as an influencer.  More organizations are seeking social media influencers to help their business.

Engaging with social media influencers will allow for an increase in awareness of your brand and increase your online reputation.  Naturally this is going to lead to an increase of sales. The point in all of this is to show you how social media can work for you.  Ninja Outreach “reached out” to tell me that I had a broken link on my website.  I was grateful for the contact and the solution.  My response is to use the experience to hopefully encourage my readers who have periods of “Is it worth it?”.  Using this as an example, I put out information about NinjaOutreach  which in turn will hopefully drive more business to them.

Social Media is an easy way to learn about your audience.  Using tools like Facebook Insights, you can learn more about age, gender and what your audience really likes.  You can gain a sense of what type of people they are.

Social Media helps target your audience more effectively.  When you place those ads, you can use the information you have gathered and ensure that those ads are reaching your ideal customer.  

Social media can help you find new customers and expand your audience.  In Twitter for example, say your business is coffee.  Look for those tweeting about coffee and then reach out to them and invite them to try your product.  Make sure however that you build a relationship and say more than “Hi, saw your tweet about coffee, try mine” You are never going to get results like that.  Remember Gary Vaynerchuk’s approach:
